Hello everyone,

It is with great joy that we share great news for us at the end of the year, the discovery of a new candidate of planetary nebula!
Ultimate dream for any astro, we no longer believed that it was possible to make new discoveries in the sky at this time. We were wrong, and here is the first and only image of our nebula, "Cop 1" or "Coppe 1" for its full name, which we have decided to call "The Gen's nebula".

We discovered this object in early September 2022, after many months of research on professional surveys. This task is very difficult, and, coached by our friends Marcel Drechsler and Xavier Strottner, all this work ended up paying off!
About 1 month after the discovery, Pascal Le Dû confirmed the opening of our "Coppe" catalog, and the recording of "Cop 1", also officially registered later in the global HASH database in Hong-Kong.

The next step was to image our discovery, and for that we were able to count on Peter Goodhew and Sven Eklund, who spent 47 hours posing on it from their setups located remotely in Spain.

Cop 1 exhibits the fairly usual characteristics of a spherical planetary nebula (PN), with a CSPN (central white dwarf) present at the center of a bubble of OIII and H-Alpha. However, only a spectrocopy will be able to confirm if it is indeed a real PN or another type of object.
Located in the Cygnus constellation, it's about 5000 light-years distant from Earth (Source Gaia DR2) for an apparent size of 3.2 arc minutes and an estimated real size of 4.5 light-years. It is relatively incredible to have made the discovery in this constellation, so much imaged.

We believe, but this remains to be confirmed, to be the first Belgians to discover a nebula. This detail is for us a real honor and a great pride.

This discovery would never have been possible without an international collaboration between all those people who helped us to get there. This is why we would like here to warmly thank, although there are no words to express the gratitude we have, Marcel and Xavier for their help and precious advice, Peter and Sven for their incredible acquisitions as well as their work of incredible quality, Pascal for taking the time to analyze our submission and register it. Salut à tous,

C'est avec une immense joie que nous vous partageons une grande nouvelle pour nous en cette fin d'année, la découverte d'une nouvelle candidate nébuleuse planétaire ! 
Rêve ultime pour tout astro, nous ne croyions plus qu'il était possible de faire des nouvelles découvertes dans le ciel à notre époque. Nous nous étions trompé, et voici la première et unique image de notre nébuleuse, "Cop 1" ou "Coppe 1" pour son nom complet, que nous avons décidé d'appeler la "Gen's nebula". 

Nous avons découvert cet objet début septembre 2022, après beaucoup de mois de recherches sur des surveys professionnelles. Cette tâche est loin d'être simple, et, conseillés par nos amis Marcel Drechsler et Xavier Strottner, tout ce travail a fini par payer ! 
Environ 1 mois après la découverte, Pascal Le Dû nous confirma l'ouverture de notre catalogue "Coppe", et l'enregistrement de "Cop 1", également enregistrée officiellement par la suite dans la base de données mondiale HASH de Hong-Kong.

L'étape suivante était d'imager notre découverte, et pour cela nous avons pu compter sur Peter Goodhew et Sven Eklund, qui ont passé 47h à poser dessus depuis leurs setups situés en remote en Espagne. 

Cop 1 présente les caractéristiques assez habituelles d'une nébuleuse planétaire (PN) sphérique, avec un CSPN (naine blanche centrale) présent au centre d'une bulle d'OIII et de H-Alpha. Toutefois, seule une spectrocopie pourra confirmer formellement s'il s'agit bien d'une réelle PN ou d'un autre type d'objet. 
Située dans la constellation du Cygne, elle serait distante de la Terre d'environ 5000 années-lumière (source Gaia DR2) pour une taille apparente de 3,2 minutes d'arc et une taille réelle de 4,5 années-lumière. Il est relativement incroyable d'avoir fait la découverte dans cette constellation, tellement imagée. 

Nous pensons, mais cela reste à confirmer, être les premiers belges  à découvrir une nébuleuse. Ce détail est pour nous un véritable honneur et une grande fierté. 

Cette découverte n'aurait jamais pu être possible sans une collaboration internationale entre toutes ces personnes qui nous ont aidés pour y arriver.
